POTENS IN TERRA Beatus Vir RV597 Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741) ___________________________________________ Dando continuidade ao “Beatus Vir” para dois coros, apresentamos hoje o POTENS IN TERRA, segundo movimento da peça. Um dueto contrapontístico para dois baixos. Esta forma acompanha a estética da obra, sempre em duplas (2 coros e 2 orquestras). Estruturalmente é uma das mais bizarras dentre as obras sacras de Vivaldi. O vigor da sua escrita, seja para os solistas quanto para a orquestra, traduz muito bem a mensagem do texto: “Seus descendentes serão poderosos na terra” através de escalas descendentes, firmes e fortes. Finalizando, os dois coros juntos, de maneira homofônica, repetem o refrão tema da obra com a afirmação: “Feliz aquele que teme a Deus”. Structurally it is one of the most bizarre among the sacred works of Vivaldi.
