UFIC Choir's Rise to Stardom (Yeukai Karengezeka)

Sensational choral group,United Family International Church (UFIC) Choir is among the groups that have risen to stardom over a short space of time. The huge choir that is made up of about 500 members is one of the largest choral groups locally and its impact has been felt on the gospel scene and beyond.

The group's latest achievement is having five nominations at the upcoming Zimbabwe Music Awards that will be held at Harare International Conference Centre on October 29.

The choir was nominated for Best Contemporary Choral Music with three albums "Divine Solutions Volume 2 and 3" and "We Are a Family Volume 1". It is also up for Album of the Year with "We are a Family" and Best Duo/Groups category for "We Are a Family Volume 1".

Although the choir was formed in 2008 by Prophet Emmanuel and Ruth Makandiwa, it became visible on the showbiz last year with their offerings "Divine Solutions 1, 2 & 3" and "We are a Family".

Cathedral's first girls' choir prepares for historic concert (Timbates)

The Canterbury Cathedral Girls’ Choir, the first choir of its’ kind in the holy site’s 1400-year-history, are preparing for their first Christmas concert.

The choir was announced last year, and have been performing since the start of 2014. The 16 girls, aged between 12 and 18, made their debut at January Evensong. They were lauded by the media for bringing an end to more than a millennium of male-dominated singing at the Cathedral.

St. Malachy students picked for OPUS Honor Choir

St. Malachy sixth graders Olivia Hagen and Marie Mullin were recently selected for participation in the 29th annual OPUS Honor Choir Festival.

More than 3,500 students were nominated by their directors for 720 positions in the four OPUS Honor Choirs.

Selections were made by means of a recorded audition.

The student singers will rehearse and perform as part of the 5/6 grade choir, which will be directed by guest conductor Tanya Rosenkranz from Linn Mar Schools.

Hagen is the daughter of Kimberly and Michael Hagen of Afton; Mullin is the daughter of Julia Weisshaar-Mullin and Bill Mullin of Creston.

Popular men’s choir will perform at St. Paul’s United Church (Orillia Packet and Times)

The Canadian Orpheus Male Choir (COMC) will be in concert Saturday at St. Paul’s United Church in Orillia at 7:30 p.m.

 

Founded in 1977 in Hamilton, the COMC has become internationally known through recordings and international concert tours. The choir has performed  more than 400 concerts in Canada, the United States, Britain, Ireland and continental Europe. It has sung at such prestigious venues as the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, Toronto’s Roy Thompson Hall, Westminster Abbey, the Royal Festival Hall, St. Paul’s Cathedral and the Royal Albert Hall in London, England. In 2015, the COMC will do its second concert tour of Ireland.

Croydon’s young singers tune in for choral premiere (CronxWire)

For an unknown soldier by internationally-acclaimed composer Jonathan Dove is the centrepiece of an ambitious community and educational programme devised by London Mozart Players, one of the UK’s finest ensembles and Croydon’s resident orchestra.

The new work was jointly commissioned by the orchestra and The Portsmouth Grammar School and the world premiere will take place in Portsmouth Cathedral on Remembrance Sunday.

PH all-male choir takes top prize in South Korea competition (Rappler.com)

According to a press release, Aleron choir beat out 38 other choirs from 8 different countries, including Czech Republic, Russia, and Colombia. The group won the Gold Prize in the Classical Equal Voices category, which qualified them to advance to the Grand Prix round.

Children's Choir of Chico will be serving a complete pancake breakfast 8-11 a.m. Saturday at Bidwell Presbyterian Church, 208 W. First St. The breakfast is a fundraiser for the choir's European tour in July 2015.

Ladies' choir celebrates milestone 30th anniversary (David Owens)

It was celebration time for Cor Merched Ynysybwl Ladies’ Choir who recently staged a special concert marking their 30th anniversary.

Held at Capel Noddfa in Ynysybwl with more than 150 people attending, the choir entertained the audience with a wide range of songs, including traditional, Welsh and standards from the musicals.

The choir was supported by special guests Heather Main and Trerobart Primary School.

Michelle Williams is starring in the upcoming Oxygen series "Fix My Choir" and is revealing that sometimes people in choirs can have more egos than mainstream singing groups.

Williams, 33, and co-star Haddon, 41, are gearing up to help gospel choirs in churches, schools, and communities with the upcoming Oxygen network reality television series that is slated for a Nov. 5 debut at 10 p.m. ET. Vocal teachers unite to grow choir program at Dallas ISD’s Carter High School (Neighborsgo reporter )

Demetrius Ethley has made a career of resurrecting struggling school choir programs.

It’s a song and dance he’s conducted at three Dallas-Fort Worth area schools.

Now the choral director at Carter High School in South Dallas, he’s brought music back to the choir hall.

But the road ends at Carter, Ethley said after a Friday afternoon practice.

“I am tired of starting over. As far as I’m concerned, this is where I’m going to die or retire,” said Ethley, 43.

Previously the choir director at Eastern Hills High School in Fort Worth, Ethley was hired as Carter’s director in January 2010.

“I’d heard of Carter because of the football team, but I knew nothing about it musically,” said Ethley, who grew up singing gospel music in Fort Worth.

The Fairfield County Children’s Choir, a community-based choral program, provides children in grades 4 through 12 the opportunity to participate in a musical experience that is challenging, rewarding and enjoyable.
