Staying the chorus: Music director marks 40 years at Christ the King (STEVE METSCH)

When Ed Zelnis first played the piano at Christ the King Church in Chicago’s Beverly community, he was a 16-year-old who attended Quigley South High School.

The building where his alma mater was now is home to St. Rita High School. But some things never change. Zelnis, 56, is marking 40 years with the church choir at Christ the King. He became music director four years after his debut and, frankly, enjoys the job so much he never entertained the idea of leaving.
